Thick clouds, offering no rain,
press down on me – day after day –
closing over my mind and heart.
Awareness of continuous calamities,
created by my fellow humans
on this precious planet of life,
leave me perched
on the edge of despair.
There seems nothing I can do about
what is happening.
So I enter the woods and listen
to birds whispering to each other.
I lie down, press my face into wet moss,
breathe in the complex cocktail
of soil, decay, leaves, fungi…
more life in and under my body than
there are humans on this planet.
I choose to love all that I love,
and to find the words
to tell others.
